I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you all – I have been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Cooperative Extension Foundation, the charitable nonprofit organization supporting the Currituck County Cooperative Extension. This opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity for an organization deeply committed to the well-being of our community is truly an honor.
The Cooperative Extension Foundation is a cornerstone of our region, embodying the mission and vision of NC State Extension. At its core, the foundation exists to extend research-based knowledge to all North Carolinians, empowering individuals and families with practical solutions to improve their lives and strengthen our state.
Mission and Vision:
At the heart of the Cooperative Extension Foundation’s work lies a profound commitment to transforming science into everyday solutions that enhance the lives of our community members. Through its mission and vision, the foundation serves as a trusted resource, connecting research and education to the diverse needs of our region. By fostering prosperity and well-being for all North Carolinians, the foundation embodies the spirit of service and innovation.
Cycle of Solutions:
The foundation operates on a cycle of solutions, engaging with local communities to identify pressing issues, conducting rigorous research to develop evidence-based solutions, and transferring these results back to the community. This approach ensures that the foundation’s initiatives are grounded in the realities of our region and tailored to meet the unique challenges we face.
Core Focus Areas:
The Cooperative Extension Foundation focuses on three core areas: Agriculture and Food, Health and Nutrition, and 4-H Youth Development. These pillars reflect the diverse needs of our community, spanning from supporting our vital agricultural industry to promoting healthy living and empowering the next generation of leaders through youth development programs.
Making a Difference in Currituck County:
Here in Currituck County, the Cooperative Extension plays a vital role in serving our community. From providing essential resources and programs for local farmers to offering gardening workshops and food preservation classes, the extension office is a beacon of knowledge and support. One of its most significant initiatives is the Backpacks for Kids program, which ensures that needy children in our county have access to nutritious food, bridging the gap between meals and fostering a healthier, more vibrant community.
As a member of the Board of Directors, I am committed to furthering the foundation’s mission and expanding its impact in Currituck County and beyond. Together, we will continue to strengthen our community, empower individuals and families, and build a brighter future for all.
