Alligator River Bridge Replacement Reaches Major Milestone
Meanwhile, progress continues on the Alligator River Bridge replacement along U.S. 64. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the project has officially reached its one-year milestone. All 710 support pilesare now installed.
Because of this achievement, construction is moving into the next phase. Crews will begin building the bridge’s columns, caps, and deck in the months ahead.
The project will replace the 65-year-old Lindsay C. Warren Bridge with a new fixed, high-rise span. Importantly, the new bridge is designed to last 100 years, resist coastal corrosion, and eliminate delays caused by drawbridge openings. Once complete, it will offer a safer two-lane crossing with wider shoulders. The bridge is expected to open to traffic in fall 2029, followed by demolition of the existing structure.
